Kitchen design is a fashion-oriented industry and kitchen designers strive to stay on the cutting-edge of trends so they can advise, recommend and deliver couture interiors for their customers.
There are many trends that start in the fashion industry and eventually find their way into home interiors and kitchens. One example is Pantone’s past “color of the year” Tangerine Tango, which gained immediate acceptance back in 2012 in clothing fashion and is now being seen throughout the popular shelter magazines for interiors, kitchens, and bathrooms!

What is Color Blocking?
Another popular fashion trend that is making the leap into home interiors is called “Color Blocking”. In fashion, color blocking refers to bands or blocks of high-impact colors that are being used for clothing, handbags and shoes.
Fashionistas are combining hues from opposite sides of the color wheel to create eye-popping effects. An example would be turquoise-colored jeans, paired with an orange shirt and a hot-pink skinny belt (and don’t forget the matching orange nail polish!). Shown below are a few examples of “Color Blocking” in fashion.

Color Blocking Curtains
Curtains were one of the first widely accepted home goods to utilize color blocking with beautiful effects. In the images below, bands of color create a dramatic and colorful frame to the windows.
