The homeowners of this much-loved 1940s Minnesota home knew that their growing family would soon outgrow their existing floor plan. With the help of designer Tricia Davis of Studio M Kitchen & Bath and Chris Easterday of C.R.E. Construction, the homeowners embarked on a remodel and addition that maintained the character of their older home while infusing exciting, modern elements.
The largest part of this remodel project involved the kitchen and master bathroom, which were part of a 3-level, 2,400 square foot addition.
Although the kitchen was a completely new space, the homeowners wanted it to blend seamlessly with the rest of their 1940s home. To create room for the new addition, the entire back half of the home was gutted. By starting with a clean slate, they were able to ensure the integrity and charm of the original house design.

The cook of this kitchen is able to see the playroom, the dining room, and great room while at all times with this open concept design.
The new kitchen was placed adjacent to a new dining room and great room to provide a luxurious and open floorplan. A full wall of expansive windows and large patio doors and windows help take advantage of the beautiful backyard views.

The new addition also includes a multitude of new spaces to accommodate their growing family. A spacious playroom for their children to play and do homework sits just off the great room area and has handy access to the backyard. The second-floor addition includes a new resort-like master suite along with an additional bedroom.

The lower level was transformed into a new recreational space outfitted with a wet bar and a large lounging space for the family to gather for board games, movie night, or play a few tunes on the guitar. This new space provides a fresh, new communal space for the family to gather and enjoy time with one another.
